May 9th, Folkloristic Group „Szamotuły” jubilee concert

Among many events planned for this year, we have commited two gala concerts. The first one took place on May 9th in Mr. and Mrs Święciccy Farm in Baborówko. Representatives of local government, choreographers- greatest folklore experts and invited delegations of other folk groups from whole Wielkopolska participated in our event. There were also group members and their families. This means that everyone who had an impact on the previous 70 years of „Szamotuły”, who loves the folklore and tries to save it from the oblivion, were present on our event.

The most important part of the first concert was the remake of the „Szamotuły wedding” habit. It was first presented in 1932. Mrs. Janina Foltyn readapted the show in 1950. It has been shown multiple times on stage. Now, for the occasion of the jubilee, manager of the Group, Mr. Maciej Sierpiński readapted it again using the original scenario written by Władysław Frąckowiak. It took almost a year to finish the preparations.

Countryside scene, where the concert took place created an unforgetable climat and allowed the dancers to present the spirit of the old times. Girls were tearing feathers, boys were threshing grain and little girls were playing with geese to the accompaniment of flutes.
During the concert three groups of „Szamotuły” presented their skills. From youngsters to mature dancers. They showed games, dances and songs from different regions of Poland and also Polish National Dances, among which Polonez, which won in the Polonez Festival in Slonim, Belarus last year.

During the concert there was an opportunity to see the photo gallery and a movie presenting the history of the Group.
